OCTOBER NEWSFLASH 1
Click here to register for AORTIC 2013. DO YOU REQUIRE A VISA TO VISIT SOUTH AFRICA? Once you have completed the registration process and booked your tickets, we recommend that you apply for a visa immediately, should one be required. Please visit the South African Department of Home Affairs website for more information, including a list of countries exempt from visa requirements.
The AORTIC 2013 Conference Secretariat will gladly provide a personalised visa support letter should this be required for your visa application.
INOCULATIONS Please also double check ANY inoculation requirements based on your point of departure and any places you may travel through to get to Durban. Recently some travellers were denied entry into South Africa because no yellow fever inoculation certificate could be produced. More information on inoculation requirements is available here: http://www.westerncape.gov.za/service/yellow-fever-certificates
PROGRAMME An updated version of the AORTIC 2013 programme is available on the website here and the poster schedule can be found here. Please contact the Programme Secretariat on programme@aortic2013.org if you have any questions.
All programme participants (Chairs, Invited Speakers, Oral Abstract Presenters, and Poster Abstract Presenters) will have received briefing emails for each of their roles in the conference. All programme participants are urged to read the programme participants brief and check their involvement in the programme and poster schedule.
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS There have been a number of changes in the pre-conference workshops. This has resulted in a few of the originally advertised pre-conference workshops now no longer being offered, and a great many new pre-conference workshops being added. AORTIC 2013 will have a record number of pre-conference workshops! Please see Wednesday and Thursday on the programme for the pre-conference workshops.
Delegates no longer need to indicate on their registration that they will be attending a particular pre-conference workshop, only whether they will attend workshops on Wednesday and/or workshops on Thursday or not. Delegates are asked to follow the instructions on their registration confirmation email and log back into their registration to make this change. Should you need assistance in doing so, please contact the registration desk: register@aortic2013.org
LANGUAGE AND INTERPRETATION Programme participants may present in their choice of English or French. Simultaneous interpretation in English and French will be provided in all plenary sessions, and all sessions that take place in Halls 2ABFH and 2C.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME A wonderful social programme has been developed that will afford delegates and their accompanying persons the opportunity to sample some of the best that Durban has to offer. Please click here for more information on AORTIC 2013 Social Programme.
ACCOMPANYING PERSONS An accompanying persons programme showcasing the vibrant city of Durban is available for the enjoyment of those travelling with AORTIC 2013 delegates. Registered accompanying persons are invited to attend the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception, and can purchase a ticket to attend the Gala Dinner.
The package also includes two half-day sightseeing tours: the City Tour, which is an introduction to the multicultural city of Durban; and a visit to uShaka Marine World to explore the wonders within Africa’s vast oceans.
DAY TOURS For accompanying persons, or for delegates who find themselves with a free moment during the conference week, we have lined up a number of exciting day tour options. From the dramatic peaks of the exquisite Drakensberg mountain range to traditional Zulu villages, magnificent game reserves, historic battle sites and the warm Indian Ocean lapping onto wide, sandy beaches, KwaZulu-Natal is a tourist's paradise. Let Hylton Ross, the AORTIC 2013 tour operator, help you discover the treasures of this region.
